4 Reasons I Hate Cooking….

There are many really good reasons this work at home mom here really dislikes cooking.  One of which being my children insist on being fed at all.

Soo annoying correct??

Okay clearly I am not that heartless, unless it is the sixth time I have been beckoned to make food in the last 15 minutes.

That is basically every 15 minutes of my life, you can see why working at home can be hard and counter productive at times for me.

Note – I am not even menitoning the additional times they come up to me asking for liquids… all while trying to write.

Everytime I have re read what I have done and begin again, only to get out a few lines to be interrupted again… repeat for the rest of my life.

And people wonder why us moms snap right??  Silly

SO when I am given the green light to go ahead and screw dinner and just do some finger cooking with Lazymeal.com I am over the moon happy.

Here are four really good reasons I hate to cook…

1) Dishes, even though I have a dishwasher now I can do dishes twice a day… sick… I can’t wait to turn my children into slaves and give them chores for the rest of their lives!!!!

2) Messy freaking kids… every time I let them help me cook I am reminded why that was a really stupid-endorphin-induced idea.  They’re cute sure but they’re demons in the kitchen.

3) Picky eaters… I am plagued with this to the third extent.  My youngest is picky, my eldest is picky and my hubby is the pickiest out of them all.  Makes me want to kill things, especially when they all have my hubby’s habit of pointing out what they hate, why and how it was MY fault (i.e. you cooked it too long and its dry, rather than sorry for interrupting you AGAIN causing you to dry out this chicken etc…).  My hubby also does this to his mother, I can’t stand it and it is super dis respectful… just eat what is put in front of you and be thankful I don’t ship all of you off to Ethiopia.

4) As great as a cook as I am, I am no Martha.  Especially in the baking department…. most of this comes from the fact that I don’t’ have her bank account.  I bet if I had all that junk I could be perfect in the kitchen too!

So you see, all of those are great reasons why most days I cringe at my kitchen…. I especially hate having to clean it all up just to make dinner and have it end up twice as messy.  Again… people wonder why mothers snap.

So save yourself from insanity and do some finger cooking tonight… face it after reading all of this you don’t want to cook anyways right??

  1. My kids are to the point, where they don’t eat what is put on the plate in front of them. I thought I could be smart and just leave it on the table and they would get hungry and actually eat it. Yeah, I have never been more wrong in my life. The food on the table is used as ammo now. Chalk up another mommy fail for me!

  2. My son is 5 and I thought it would be so easy fix it and they eat it. Ha Ha funny. Not in my house as his dad is so picky that it makes Charlie think he can too. I think I should just turn cooking over to them and if they do not eat to bad so sad. As I can live on soup and sandwiches. Charlie now and David most likely not so they can just fend for themselves. Lets go on strike.

  3. @Glenda I agree STRIKE!!!! lol no but seriously my hubby is so picky he only eats the sauce in the salsa. No chunks. So when you go to use it, it is always BONE DRY! I ask him “what if I puree it all?” and he responds “no, i’ll know the chunks are pureed…” but… really!?!?!? (fml)

@misty my hubby’s parents would send them to bed and give it to them again for breakfast the next day if they didn’t eat it lol!!

  4. I have to laugh at I’m no Martha. I think she’s interesting but just sets a nearly impossible example so I don’t even try, LOL. I do love cooking though, but I only have one kid and a non-picky hubby. Funny post!

  5. Oh the I am hungry drives me crazy! I swear I feed my kids and 10 minute later they are hungry again. Plus another reason- in the summer when it is hot I do not want to stand over a hot stove or turn on an oven. So yea- cooking is overrated :)

  6. I love cooking…on my terms. NOT when I just walked in from a long day at work or when I don’t have any ingredients. Let’s face it, I never have the right ingredients to just whip something up!

  7. I hear you! If I could hire a personal chef I would seriously be all over that… So tough to find the time every day to find something relatively quick & easy, that’s somewhat healthy, and that everyone will eat. And don’t forget needing variety… AAARRGGGHH!

  8. My theory on cooking is simple. My food almost always tastes better when someone else makes it for me. I could make the same meal as my Mom would at the same time and I know I’ll like her version better. There must be an unwritten law about this somewhere.

  9. Oh man, I’m so with you. And I hate to break it to you, but you may not hate it any less when your kids aren’t so messy or picky. Mine are 13 and 15, and they still want food every 15 minutes, and a bowl of fishy crackers doesn’t cut it. They want big food. My top four reasons: 1) it takes me away from other things I’d rather be doing 2) It means I must have the require food stuffs to cook, which means I must stay on top of the grocery shopping, which takes me away from other things I’d rather be doing. 3) My guys are not terribly picky, but oddly, they rarely like the same things as each other or the things that my hubby and I like, so I’m still cooking 2 or 3 separate meals, which takes me away, even longer, from the things I’d rather be doing, and 4) after spending an hour preparing it all, they scarf it down in 5 minutes. *sigh* Oh well, at least then, I can get back to the things I’d rather be doing. :)
